Lot 163: A Royal Winton Grimwades Lustre Ware Vase With Desert Scene

A Royal Winton earthenware vase of ovoid form, tapering to a slightly flared foot. The exterior is finished with an iridescent mother-of-pearl lustre glaze that transitions from a cream tone at the rim to a turquoise-blue base. The surface is decorated with a hand-painted desert oasis scene featuring large pink cactus blooms, red buds, and a palm tree. The interior has a cream glaze. The base features a black printed backstamp reading ROYAL WINTON, GRIMWADES, MADE IN, ENGLAND. There are also hand-painted green characters reading 1469. Fine overall crazing is present across the entire glazed surface. No maker’s signatures are visible on the painted decoration.
