Lot 65: UK 1890 Victoria Jubilee Head Silver Crown
A UK silver crown featuring the Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria. The obverse depicts the left-facing bust of the Queen wearing a small crown and veil, surrounded by the Latin legend VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D:. The reverse displays the classic St. George and dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, with the horse and rider above the date 1890 located in the exergue. The coin is constructed with a reeded edge and is composed of .925 fineness sterling silver. No mint mark is visible, indicating production at the Royal Mint in London.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of moderate circulation and handling. The obverse exhibits flattening to the high points of the Queen\'s cheek, hair, and crown, with numerous fine surface contact marks and a dark, uneven patina concentrated around the legend (photo 2). The reverse displays similar wear to the musculature of the horse and rider, with localized toning within the recessed areas of the design and small scratches throughout the fields (photo 1). The reeded edge remains largely intact with minor knocks. No protective capsule or packaging is supplied.
