Lot 193: UK Elizabeth II and George VI Halfpenny Collection, Sandhill Coin Folder
Sold for: £4
This lot comprises a collection of UK copper-alloy halfpennies housed in a blue card folder. The folder features a printed title in bold dark blue script reading SANDHILL COIN FOLDER and HALFPENNIES, accompanied by a stylised S logo. The collection includes issues from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II, featuring the Golden Hind ship reverse design. Visible dates on the reverses include 1937, 1954, 1960, 1966, and 1967. The obverse designs show the profiles of the respective monarchs. The coins are secured within a die-cut card insert under a clear plastic film. The folder is constructed from blue textured card with a printed double-line border. Several storage slots remain empty. No additional maker’s marks or labels are visible on the folder or coins.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit a range of surface conditions, including dark brown oxidation, handling marks, and contact marks consistent with circulation. Several examples from the 1960s retain portions of original mint lustre, while earlier issues show significant toning. The Sandhill folder shows heavy wear, including creasing and staining to the interior card. The blue cover has significant damage along the bottom edge, which has been repaired with aged adhesive tape. One coin is displaced from its intended slot. The folder is missing several coins from the original set.
