Lot 263: A Metal Countertop Grinder With A Bevel Gear Mechanism
Sold for: £4
A countertop grinder, featuring a curved hopper bowl and a rotating internal grinding mechanism. The piece is of metal construction with a dark-finished frame and a polished, copper-toned bowl and lid. It utilizes a two-gear bevel drive system to translate the motion of a side-mounted hand crank into a vertical grinding action. The crank features a turned wooden handle, and the central shaft is fitted with a tension-adjusting nut and spring assembly at the top. The circular base includes four integral mounting holes for surface attachment. A hinged flap on the bowl allows access to the hopper. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of handling and surface oxidation to the dark-finished metal frame and gear teeth. There is light wear and minor tarnish to the copper-toned surfaces (photo 1). The wooden handle appears secure with minor surface abrasions (photo 2). The bevel gears show minor paint loss through contact (photo 3).
