Lot 7: A Trio of Moira Pottery Stoneware Cider and Spirit Jugs
A trio of salt-glazed stoneware flagons of traditional cylindrical form with narrow necks and single loop handles. Each jug features a two-tone finish, comprising a dark brown ferruginous glaze to the shoulders and rim over a natural buff-coloured body. The first jug is printed with a black transfer illustration of a horse-drawn plough and the text COUNTRYMAN FARM SCRUMPY. The second jug features the large capitalised word WHISKY in black block lettering. The third jug displays a circular graphic depicting a rooster with a walking cane, titled LANGDON’S CRIPPLE COCK SCRUMPY, and includes the volume marking 568 ML. The base of the central jug bears a black printed transfer mark featuring two stylised pigs and the text MOIRA FARMHOUSE STONEWARE MADE IN ENGLAND OVEN AND FREEZER – PROOF MICROWAVE AND DISHWASHER SAFE. No other marks are visible.

Condition report:
The stoneware jugs are in good vintage condition. Small pitted imperfections and minor surface abrasions are visible in the glaze, consistent with the firing process and age (photo 1). The transfer printing remains clear and legible across all three pieces. The bases show minor shelf wear and surface marking (photo 2). There are no visible cracks, chips, or structural repairs.
