Lot 45: An English Glass Tankard, Flying Pheasant Decoration and Gilt Rim
A clear glass tankard of cylindrical form with a paneled lower body and a D-shaped handle. The vessel is decorated with a transfer-printed scene depicting a common pheasant in flight amongst coniferous branches and orange berries. The rim is finished with a band of gold-coloured gilding. The base of the glass features several embossed marks. At the top curve is the word ENGLAND, and at the bottom curve is LONDON. The central area contains the text DEW 4 and a logo consisting of two overlapping squares, one containing a stylised D. To the left is the code B202 and to the right is the digit 8. These marks identify the piece as a product of Dema Glass.
Condition report:
The glass is in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 1). The pheasant transfer decoration remains vibrant and largely intact. There is minor thinning and wear to the gilt rim consistent with handling (photo 1). The embossed marks on the base are clearly defined (photo 2).
