Lot 277: A Mid-20th Century Print, 'Horseguards in the Mall'
A large horizontal print on textured board, depicting a scene of the Household Cavalry. The composition features four mounted soldiers in ceremonial uniform, including helmets with plumes and breastplates, set against a stylised backdrop of the Victoria Memorial and the gates of Buckingham Palace. The artwork is rendered in a mid-20th century modernist style, characterised by a muted palette of ochre, blue, and brown, with vibrant red accents for the plumes. The image is overlaid with a series of horizontal and vertical linear segments, creating a fragmented effect. The piece is housed in a wide, tiered wooden frame with an off-white and gold-toned finish. A white adhesive label is adhered to the upper frame edge reading DRAGON KING. No artist’s marks or signatures are visible on the face of the work.
Width: 64.0 cm.
Condition report:
The print surface appears in good condition with no visible tears or significant losses to the board. The frame shows minor surface wear and small losses to the finish, particularly at the corners and along the lower edge. The mounting remains secure within the frame.
