Lot 278: A 9ct Yellow Gold Amethyst and Diamond Cocktail Ring
A cocktail ring featuring a large oval-cut vibrant purple gemstone, identified as an amethyst, secured within a four-prong basket setting. The setting features a decorative openwork gallery with filigree scrollwork. The shoulders are accented by two tiered semi-circular sections of white metal, each pavé-set with small round-cut stones. The internal band bears a series of struck hallmarks including the fineness mark 375, a stylized crown gold standard mark, and two further rectangular punches featuring a date letter and an assay office mark. An additional maker’s mark is present but is not legible as a name.

Condition report:
The ring shows signs of moderate wear throughout. The yellow gold band displays noticeable surface scratching and abrasions (photo 1). The white metal plating on the tiered shoulder settings shows evidence of dulling and surface oxidation (photo 3). The central amethyst displays minor wear to the facet edges consistent with use. The hallmark punches on the internal band are partially rubbed (photo 4).
