Lot 256: Isle of Man One Crown Coin, Centenary of the Horse Tram
An Isle of Man commemorative one crown coin celebrating the centenary of the Douglas horse tramway. The reverse features a central design of a horse-drawn tram with a driver and passengers, surrounded by a decorative border and the legend CENTENARY OF THE HORSE TRAM · ONE CROWN ·. The coin is housed in a clear circular plastic capsule and presented in a red case with a white satin-lined interior and a black velvet-textured insert. The inside of the lid is printed in black with a turreted castle logo and the text POBJOY MINT SUTTON SURREY ENGLAND. No fineness marks or metal stamps are visible on the coin or its packaging.
Condition report:
The coin exhibits a proof-like finish with mirrored fields and frosted relief. The reverse shows several fine surface contact marks and light scratches, most notably a linear mark across the horse\'s flank and a cluster of small marks in the upper field (photo 2). The satin lining of the presentation case lid displays light brown staining and foxing marks (photo 1). The coin is supplied in a protective plastic capsule and its original Pobjoy Mint presentation case.
