Buyer's Premium:

A UK silver coin, identified as a William III half Crown. The obverse features the laureate, draped bust of the monarch facing right, surrounded by the struck legend GVLIELMVS · III · DEI · GRA ·. The reverse displays a cruciform arrangement of four crowned shields representing the kingdoms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, with the Lion of Nassau at the centre. The struck legend on the reverse reads MAG · BR · FRA · ET · HIB · REX · 16 98 ·. The coin has been modified with a single circular suspension hole drilled through the 12 o’clock position of the obverse portrait. The edge is milled.


Condition report:

The coin shows signs of significant circulation and environmental exposure. The obverse displays heavy wear to the high points of the portrait and across the legend, with numerous fine surface scratches and nicks throughout the fields. A suspension hole is present at the upper edge (photo 1). The reverse shows similar heavy wear to the crowns and shields, with darkening and tarnish visible in the recessed areas around the central motif (photo 3). The coin is presented without a protective capsule or case.
