Buyer's Premium:

A British commemorative box medal of circular screw-top form, constructed from metal with a dark toned finish. The obverse features a profile portrait bust of the Prince Regent in military uniform and a fur-mantle, surrounded by the struck legend HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS GEORGE PRINCE REGENT. The reverse depicts a decorative wreath composed of bows and six circular medallions, each containing a rose and the struck garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The central inscription reads CHRONOLOGY OF THE SOVEREIGNS OF ENGLAND. The interior of the box shows the reverse of the struck exterior designs. This type of box was designed to contain a series of circular paper historical discs. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the metal surfaces.

Condition report:

The medal shows signs of handling and age-related wear to the metal surfaces. On the obverse, there is significant loss of detail to the high points of the portrait and the surrounding legend. The reverse shows similar wear to the raised lettering and medallions. Both the interior and exterior surfaces exhibit scattered oxidation, surface pitting, and areas of green verdigris, particularly around the rims and recessed areas of the design. No internal paper discs are present with this lot.
