This lot comprises two ring-bound albums containing British Royal Mail First Day Covers dating from 1978 to 1996. The collection is housed in a brown textured binder titled POST OFFICE FIRST DAY COVERS in gold-toned lettering and a secondary black binder. The covers feature various commemorative and regional definitive stamp issues, including CHRISTMAS 1978, DOGS (1979), YEAR OF THE CHILD (1979), HORSERACING (1979), CHRISTMAS 1984 THE NATIVITY, and 1990s issues such as VE DAY 1995, SCIENCE FICTION, SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE, and FOOTBALL LEGENDS (1996). Regional definitives for SCOTLAND and NORTHERN IRELAND from 1984 are also present. The envelopes feature printed thematic cachets and are addressed to MR A C EVANS at addresses in NORTHAMPTON. Cancellations include circular and pictorial FIRST DAY OF ISSUE handstamps from the PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH and other regional offices. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the albums.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good overall condition. The envelopes are generally clean with no significant signs of foxing or yellowing visible. The stamps are well-affixed with clear cancellations that, in most instances, do not obscure the primary design elements. The binders show minor shelf wear to the edges and spines. The transparent plastic sleeves show some light surface scuffing but remain clear. The lot is sold as a collection of two albums as viewed.
