Lot 168: An Assortment of Vintage Pocket Watch Movements and Dials
This lot comprises an assortment of vintage mechanical pocket watch movements, enamel dials, and components. The collection includes various makers and retailers, featuring a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals signed ELGIN and another signed RECORD DREADNOUGHT. Several dials and movements bear the name LIMIT, while others are marked CYMA and STATTE. Retailer-signed dials include examples marked R. MCDOWELL & CO. LTD. 24 HIGH STREET BELFAST, G. A. WATCHER EDMONTON, ALTA., and JOHN A. CLARK FORFAR. One movement features decorative damaskeening and is struck with the legend 21 JEWELS, ADJUSTED, and the serial number 153340. Another movement is struck 15 JEWELS, 3 ADJUSTMENTS, SWISS MADE. A smaller movement is marked 7 JEWELS, SWISS MADE, NON-MAGNETIC. The lot also contains various loose glass crystals and a metal pocket watch chain. The components are housed in a cardboard box printed with the legend KING EDWARD IMPERIAL A SWISHER PRODUCT.
Condition report:
The collection shows significant signs of wear and age, including multiple hairline cracks and chips to the enamel dials (photo 1). The movements exhibit oxidation, tarnish, and missing components such as hands and balance wheels (photo 4). Many dials are separated from their original movements and cases. Several glass crystals are loose or missing. The cardboard box shows shelf wear, corner scuffing, and surface staining. The items are sold as non-functioning salvage parts for restoration.
