Lot 38: An English Claytondale China Lidded Pot and Table Bell, Hand-Painted with Fruit

This lot comprises a lidded pot and a matching table bell, constructed from china and featuring hand-painted fruit decoration. The pot is of hexagonal form with a fitted lid surmounted by a pointed finial. The table bell is of traditional form with a tapering handle. Both pieces are decorated with still life compositions of peaches, pears, apples, and berries against a shaded ground, with gilded highlights applied to the rims and handle. The underside of the pot bears a printed black mark consisting of a circle containing the words MADE IN ENGLAND, with CLAYTONDALE arched above and CHINA below. An artist’s palette graphic with three brushes is positioned to the right, surrounded by the text HAND DECORATED. The piece is also marked with the hand-painted initials MC in gold.
