Lot 329: A Carved Wood Relief Plaque, Elmira Maple Syrup

A circular relief plaque, carved from dark-toned wood. The central panel depicts a traditional maple syrup harvesting scene set within a sugar bush. The composition includes a sugar shack, workers tending a boiling vessel over an open fire, a horse-drawn sled, and numerous trees with sap collection buckets. The scene is rendered in high relief with intricate detail and is enclosed within an integral frame featuring a carved rope-twist inner border. The lower section of the carving features a rectangular banner bearing the incised inscription ELMIRA, with the words MAPLE SYRUP incised directly below. A joined monogram consisting of the characters T and R is incised to the right of the lower centre. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible.
