Lot 64: Isle of Man 1975 Manx Cat Twenty-Five Pence Coin, Boxed
A 1975 Isle of Man twenty-five pence coin. The reverse features a profile of a tailless Manx cat facing left, enclosed within a decorative Celtic knotwork border. Struck inscriptions on the reverse read TWENTY FIVE PENCE along the upper left rim, IOM below the central figure, and 1975 oriented vertically to the right. The obverse is not observable. The coin is housed in a clear protective capsule within a red presentation case. The interior lid features a printed black logo of a castle tower containing a lion rampant, above the text POBJOY MINT, SUTTON SURREY, ENGLAND. No fineness marks or hallmarks are visible on the coin or its packaging.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. Reverse: Extensive dark toning and mottled oxidation are visible across the fields, particularly concentrated around the central figure and the struck legends (photo 2). Fine contact marks and surface scratches are present. Obverse: Not observable. The cream fabric lining of the presentation box shows light staining and yellowish discolouration (photo 1). The coin is supplied in a clear plastic protective capsule.
