Lot 151: Zimbabwe 2001 Official Opening of the Zimbabwe Mint Commemorative Coin
A 2001 commemorative coin, of circular form, issued to celebrate the official opening of the Zimbabwe Mint. The displayed face features a central rhinoceros in a scrubland environment. Struck inscriptions around the perimeter read OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE ZIMBABWE MINT : AUGUST 2001, with BLACK RHINOCEROS positioned beneath the central figure. The coin is presented in a dark blue textured case with a clear plastic protective capsule. The interior lid of the case is decorated with a black and white graphic illustration of three balancing rocks. No hallmarks, fineness marks, or denominations are visible on the displayed face of the coin. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the presentation case.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverse displays surface cloudiness and areas of toning, particularly near the legends (photo 3). The reverse is not visible. The protective capsule is intact with light surface scuffing. The presentation case shows minor wear to the external corners and edges (photo 2). Supplied in a protective capsule and original presentation case.
