A walking cane, featuring a carved hardwood handle mounted to a 925 silver collar and a naturalistic wooden shaft. The handle is hand-carved in the form of a stylised head with elongated facial features and a textured hairstyle. The handle is fitted to a gnarled, naturalistic wooden branch shaft. The 925 silver collar is of wide band form. The cane terminates in a metal ferrule. A 925 fineness mark and other punched marks are present on the collar. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The walking cane shows signs of age and use. Several vertical surface cracks are visible in the hardwood carving, notably on the forehead and side of the head (photo 2). The 925 silver collar shows significant tarnish and light surface scratches (photo 2). The naturalistic wooden shaft exhibits typical scuffs and wear (photo 1). The metal ferrule at the base shows heavy wear and oxidation (photo 1).
