A wood walking stick, featuring a pommel hand-carved in the form of a stylised human head. The head is detailed with a high forehead, deep-set eyes, a prominent nose, and a small, pursed mouth, exhibiting a folk art aesthetic. The shaft is decorated down its entire length with an incised, hand-cut criss-cross or double-helix spiral pattern, providing both decorative interest and a tactile surface. The stick is constructed from a single piece of light-toned wood with a natural aged finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The walking stick shows signs of age and regular use. A small chip is visible on the lower right cheek and jaw area of the carved head (photo 2). Minor surface scuffs and small indentations are present along the length of the shaft (photo 3). Natural drying cracks are visible in the wood, particularly on the head and towards the base (photo 2). The bottom tip shows significant wear from contact with the ground and is missing a ferrule (photo 1). No original packaging or accessories are present.
