This lot comprises nine metal medallions, traditionally used as decorative horse brasses. The group features a variety of designs, including two circular pieces depicting a rearing horse within a border of punched holes and one with a fox head profile. Other motifs include a standing stag, a bird perched on a branch, a Scottish thistle with two leaves, and a stylised swan within a scalloped border. One piece is formed as a banded barrel with a central indentation, and the collection is completed by a plain, solid circular disc. The majority of the pieces are designed with a pierced rectangular loop at the top for attachment. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The medallions show signs of environmental exposure and handling. All pieces exhibit surface tarnish, dulling of the metal, and fine surface scratches (photo 1). Small spots of green corrosion and pitting are visible on several items, particularly the stag and fox head medallions (photo 2). The barrel-shaped medallion features a central circular hole or indentation (photo 3). No original packaging or display mounts are supplied.
