Lot 166: A Set of Six 1968 English Ellgreave Ceramic Heraldic Mugs

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises six English ceramic mugs of flared tankard form, each with a single C-shaped handle. The exterior of each mug is decorated with a polychrome transfer print depicting a medieval knight on horseback in heraldic regalia. The reverse of each vessel features a biographical text transcribed in capitals. Subjects include EDWARD, PRINCE OF WALES (B. 1330, D. 1376) and JOHN DE WARENNE, EARL OF SURREY (B. 1286, D. 1347). The bases are marked with a green circular transfer reading ELLGREAVE in script above a crown symbol, with the words GENUINE, HEATMASTER, ENGLAND, and STAFFORDSHIRE. A stamped numeric mark reading 7-68 is also present on the underside of the pieces. No other maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible.

Condition report:

The mugs are in good vintage condition with the transfer prints remaining bright and intact. A minor manufacturing stray mark of green glaze is present on the foot ring of one mug (photo 6). No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible across the set.
