A Late 20th Century plate, circular in form and constructed from earthenware. The face is decorated with a multi-colour transfer-printed scene after original artwork by PAUL S. GRIBBLE, depicting the locomotive 4472 FLYING SCOTSMAN at a station platform. A printed signature reading PAUL S. GRIBBLE is present in the lower-left foreground. The lot includes a Certificate of Provenance from THE DAVENPORT POTTERY COMPANY, LIMITED, STOKE-ON-TRENT, which is hand-inscribed with the plate number 7253 B. Accompanying ephemera consists of a four-page brochure titled THE FLYING SCOTSMAN, an announcement card for THE GOLDEN AGE OF BRITISH STEAM TRAINS, and an original handwritten receipt from FRANCIS SINCLAIR LTD dated 31/7/88. The plate is fitted with a metal spring-loaded hanger. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The earthenware plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or surface abrasions (photo 2). The accompanying paperwork shows light creasing and natural yellowing (photo 3).
