A Mid-20th Century mahogany mantel clock, featuring an arched-top case design. The clock is constructed with a decorative serpentine-profile base. The circular buff-coloured dial is set with black Arabic numerals and two winding apertures, housed behind a brass bezel with convex glass. The interior contains a mechanical spring-driven movement designed to strike on a coiled wire gong. The metal backplate of the movement is stamped with the characters E C H and the numerals 2058. A small circular mark is present above the centre, though the interior details are not legible as a name. The clock is fitted with a hinged rear wooden door. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The clock shows signs of surface wear and handling. The mahogany case displays scattered scuffs, minor surface wear, and light scratches consistent with age (photo 1). The rear wooden door is partially detached due to the bottom hinge pulling away from the wood (photo 2). The dial surface shows significant discoloration and widespread fine craquelure throughout the finish (photo 1). White paint-like specks are visible on the base (photo 1). The pendulum is currently detached and resting inside the bottom of the case (photo 2). The mechanical status of the movement is untested. The clock is supplied with a winding key.
