A UK 1889 silver crown coin, featuring the Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria. The obverse depicts a left-facing bust of the Queen wearing a small crown and veil, surrounded by the struck Latin legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F:D:. The reverse displays the Benedetto Pistrucci design of Saint George on horseback slaying a dragon above the ground line. The date 1889 is struck in the exergue, and the designer’s initials B.P. are positioned to the lower right of the ground line. The coin is composed of .925 sterling silver and features a milled edge. No additional maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverse displays a dull greyish-silver patina with darker toning within the legend characters and around the profile (photo 1). There is moderate wear to the high points of the crown, veil, and hair, alongside numerous contact marks and fine surface scratches across the fields. The reverse shows significant wear to the high points of Saint George and the horse, with a loss of finer detail on the dragon (photo 2). Contact marks and scratches are visible throughout the surface. The milled edge shows minor nicks. No protective capsule or original packaging is supplied.
