Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A set of 1972 proof coinage issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the Silver Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The collection is housed in its original blue presentation folder with gold-gilt lettering. The set contains a cupro-nickel commemorative crown piece, a heptagonal 50 pence, and 10, 5, 2, 1, and 1/2 pence denominations, accompanied by a rectangular bronze-toned plaque bearing the Royal Arms and the Royal Mint inscription. The reverse of the crown features a central EP monogram within a floral garland and the legend ELIZABETH AND PHILIP 20 NOVEMBER 1947-1972. The other coins feature standard early decimal reverses including the seated Britannia on the 50 pence and the Prince of Wales feathers on the 2 pence. The coins are struck to proof standard with mirrored fields and frosted relief.
Condition report:
Uncirculated. The coins exhibit a brilliant proof finish with mirrored fields. Light environmental toning is visible on the bronze-composition coins. The presentation folder and internal housing show excellent preservation with no significant wear.
