Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A complete 1983 United Kingdom uncirculated coin collection issued by the Royal Mint. The set comprises eight coins: a round nickel-brass 1 pound, cupro-nickel 50 pence, 20 pence, 10 pence, and 5 pence, and bronze 2 pence, 1 penny, and 1/2 penny. This set is significant for containing the first-year issue of the modern round British one-pound coin and the final fractional 1/2 penny denomination. The obverse of each coin features the second decimal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, inscribed ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 1983. Reverse designs include the Royal Arms on the 1 pound, Britannia on the 50 pence, a Tudor Rose on the 20 pence, a crowned lion on the 10 pence, a crowned thistle on the 5 pence, the Prince of Wales feathers on the 2 pence, a crowned portcullis on the 1 penny, and a crown on the 1/2 penny. The coins are housed in the original illustrated bifold cardboard folder featuring a photograph of Yeoman Warders at the Tower of London.
Condition report:
The coins are in uncirculated condition, well-preserved with full original mint lustre and no visible signs of wear or handling. The presentation folder exhibits signs of shelf wear and age, including several visible white scuff marks and surface scratches to the black gloss finish on the front cover, along with minor bumping to the corners and edges.
