Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A set of coins and a medallion issued by the Royal Mint in 1970 to mark the final year of pre-decimal currency. The collection consists of proof-quality strikes of the half crown, florin, English shilling, Scottish shilling, sixpence, threepence, penny, and halfpenny denominations. Included is a square bronze-coloured medallion featuring a crowned shield of arms and the inscription ROYAL MINT. The coins are composed of cupro-nickel, nickel-brass, and bronze. The reverse designs include the seated Britannia on the penny, the Golden Hind on the halfpenny, and the crowned portcullis on the threepence. All coins are dated 1970 and are presented reverse-side up in a clear plastic display insert. The set is housed in its original textured purple presentation box, which is embellished with a gold-leaf scroll pattern and the title COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND 1970.
Condition report:
The coins and medallion appear in uncirculated proof condition with brilliant mirrored fields and no visible evidence of handling, toning, or environmental spotting. The clear plastic insert is free from cracks or significant scratching. The purple outer box remains in excellent condition with clear gold-leaf lettering and minimal wear to the edges.
