Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A collection of United Kingdom proof coins issued by the Royal Mint in 1985. The set is presented in the original blue fold-over case with a black velvet-effect insert and includes a commemorative square plaque. The coins are struck in nickel-brass (one pound), cupro-nickel (fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, and five pence), and bronze (two pence and one penny). The coins exhibit proof strike characteristics with mirrored fields and frosted relief. Reverse designs include the Welsh leek, seated Britannia, the Tudor rose, a lion passant guardant, the Scottish thistle, the Prince of Wales’s feathers, and the crowned portcullis. A commemorative plaque features the inscription Elizabeth R 1985 beneath a crown. The interior lid is marked with the Royal Mint crest and collection titles.
Condition report:
The coins appear in proof condition with sharp strikes and mirrored fields. The presentation case shows light exterior wear. The white interior lid lining displays significant foxing and spotting throughout.
