A pair of hallmarked sterling silver fraternal jewels associated with the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), awarded to Brother Alfred L. Huntley of St. Lawrence Lodge No. 8361. The first item is a Primo Degree jewel featuring a blue silk ribbon suspended from a top bar inscribed PRIMO. The ribbon is decorated with a gilt metal RAB GLE monogram and suspends a circular pendant. The obverse of the pendant features a central white and red enamelled CP monogram surrounded by a blue enamel border inscribed JUSTICE TRUTH PHILANTHROPY, surmounted by a crown. The reverse is engraved BRO ALFRED L. HUNTLEY RAISED 10-6-73 ST. LAWRENCE LODGE 8361 and bears Birmingham hallmarks for 1973 with the maker’s mark F.C P for F.C. Parry Ltd.
The second item is a Second Degree jewel featuring a pink silk ribbon with a metal bar inscribed 2nd DEG 10-6-73. It suspends a Maltese-style cross pendant with a central enamelled buffalo head and the Latin motto NEMO MORTALIUM OMNIBUS HORIS SAPIT within a blue enamel border. The reverse is engraved BRO ALFRED L. HUNTLEY ST. LAWRENCE LODGE NO 8361 EXALTED 3-10-76 and bears Birmingham hallmarks for 1976 with the F.C P maker’s mark.
Condition report:
Both jewels are in good vintage condition. There is light surface tarnish to the silver components and minor wear and light soiling to the silk ribbons consistent with age. The enamel work remains intact and well-preserved.
