A gilt base metal commemorative medallion produced for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse features the crowned profile of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II 1953. The reverse bears the inscription TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF HER MAJESTY ELIZABETH II 1953, surmounted by a crown and encircled by a laurel wreath. The medal is accompanied by a red textured cardboard presentation box with gold-stamped lettering on the lid.
Condition report:
Significant wear is visible to the gilt plating, exposing the base metal on the high points of the portrait and lettering. Areas of dark oxidation and green verdigris are present on both surfaces. The box is in a worn state with significant fading to the gold-stamped text on the lid.
