A silver-gilt and enamel oval badge representing Masonic provincial regalia for the Province of Essex. The central design features a dark blue enamel field overlaid with a 925 silver device consisting of crossed wands tied with a ribbon, positioned above a scroll banner inscribed ASSISTANT. This iconography signifies the office of Assistant Director of Ceremonies. The textured outer border is embossed with the letters ESSEX. The reverse of the piece is stamped with the maker mark TOYE KENNING & SPENCER LONDON and T.K.& S. It also carries a full set of British hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard head for the London Assay Office. A small suspension loop is present at the top.
Condition report:
The badge exhibits surface tarnish and minor wear to the gilt finish, primarily on the reverse and high points of the lettering. The blue enamel is well-preserved with no noticeable chips or cracks.
