A collection of coins titled Sapphire Coronation Coinage Collection 1953 and 2018, issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The set contains two distinct groups of United Kingdom currency representing the beginning and a later milestone of the reign. The first group comprises pre-decimal coins dated 1953, including a five shilling Crown featuring an equestrian portrait of the Queen, a Half Crown, a Florin, English and Scottish type Shillings, a Sixpence, a brass Threepence, a Penny, a Halfpenny, and a Farthing. These coins feature the Mary Gillick obverse portrait and traditional heraldic or symbolic motifs on the reverses. The second group comprises decimal coins dated 2018, featuring a commemorative five pound Crown with the inscription Sapphire Anniversary 1953-2018 and a royal coat of arms design. Also included are the circulating denominations from two pounds to one penny, which feature the fifth definitive coinage portrait by Jody Clark and the Royal Shield reverse designs. The collection is housed in a decorative bi-fold presentation folder with educational text regarding the pre-decimal currency system, contained within a slipcase featuring a colour portrait of the Queen in coronation regalia.

Condition report:

The 2018 decimal coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, retaining high original mint lustre. The 1953 pre-decimal coins show varied states of natural toning, surface marks, and environmental patina consistent with age. The presentation folder and slipcase are in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear.
