A silver Maundy penny from the reign of James II, minted in 1686. The obverse features a laureate bust of James II with the Latin legend IACOBVS . II . DEI . GRATIA. The reverse displays a crowned Roman numeral I denomination positioned between the split date 16 86, surrounded by the legend . MAG . BR . FRA . ET . HIB . REX . The coin is struck in silver and features a beaded border on both sides. This specimen was produced during the second year of the reign of James II.
Condition report:
Fine to Very Fine. The coin displays significant dark, mottled toning and oxidation across the obverse and reverse surfaces. There is moderate wear visible on the higher relief areas of the portrait and crown. The legends, date, and beaded borders remain legible and well-defined.
