The coin is housed in the original Royal Mint pictorial presentation folder titled DNA Celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Double Helix Discovery. The reverse design by John Mills features the inscriptions DNA DOUBLE HELIX and 1953 TWO POUNDS 2003. The obverse displays the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. The coin is composed of a cupro-nickel centre and a nickel-brass outer ring. The green and cream card pack provides historical and scientific information regarding the 1953 discovery by Francis Crick and James Watson.
