A United Kingdom commemorative crown (five shillings) issued for the 1951 Festival of Britain. The coin is struck in cupro-nickel and features the St. George and the Dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci with the date 1951 in the exergue. The obverse features the George VI portrait. The coin is housed in its original square green textured presentation box, which features a gilt Royal Coat of Arms and the inscription FESTIVAL OF BRITAIN 1951. The lot includes the original paper descriptive leaflet. This issue was struck by the Royal Mint to commemorate the centenary of the Great Exhibition.
Condition report:
The coin is in uncirculated condition, exhibiting sharp details and original surfaces. Light golden-brown peripheral toning is present on the reverse. The original presentation box shows minor edge wear and light surface scuffing consistent with age. The paper leaflet is well-preserved with minor age-related discolouration.
