A collection of proof coins from the UK and Northern Ireland, dated 1970, issued by the Royal Mint as a final commemoration of the pre-decimal currency system. The collection includes a Half Crown, a Two Shillings (florin), an English Shilling, a Scottish Shilling, a Sixpence, a Three Pence, a Penny, and a Half Penny. The silver-coloured denominations are struck in copper-nickel, whereas the Penny and Half Penny are struck in bronze. Each piece exhibits proof quality, featuring mirror-like fields and frosted relief. Reverse motifs include the crowned Royal Arms, a Tudor rose, a portcullis, the Golden Hind, and Britannia. The set is contained within its original clear acrylic display case featuring a purple velvet insert and a rectangular copper-coloured plaque inscribed ROYAL MINT. The lot is accompanied by the original textured purple presentation box with gilt lettering reading COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND 1970.
Condition report:
The coins are in uncirculated proof condition with sharp strikes and reflective fields. No significant toning, spotting, or physical wear is observed. The acrylic case and presentation box remain in good order with only minor shelf wear.
