A 20-piece English fine china tea and coffee service manufactured by Baroness in the Atchin Tan pattern. The set is decorated with transfer-printed scenes depicting traditional Romany life, featuring horse-drawn vardos and figures at a campsite within a landscape. The service is finished with a warm amber and brown lustre glaze and extensive gilt highlights to the rims, handles, and spouts. The lids of the teapots are further embellished with transfer-printed blackberry and bramble leaf motifs. The service comprises one globular teapot, one kettle-style teapot with a square overhead gilt handle, one cream jug, one large scalloped-edge serving plate, one small open bowl, five teacups, four saucers, two small side plates, and four large plates with fluted rims. The underside of the pieces bears a green printed backstamp reading BARONESS, FINE CHINA, MADE IN ENGLAND, ATCHIN TAN beneath a crown logo.
Condition report:
The service presents well with vibrant colours and gilding throughout. There is visible age-related crazing to the glaze on several pieces, most notably on the body of the kettle-style teapot. Minor rubbing and wear to the gilt rims and lustre highlights are present, consistent with age and light use. No major chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
