A large collection of mid-20th-century vintage trade cards, primarily consisting of tea cards issued by UK manufacturers. The collection includes several stacks tied in cotton string bundles and numerous loose cards housed in a cardboard box. A significant portion of the collection is identified as the History of Aviation series issued by Brooke Bond Tea in 1972, featuring illustrations by Roy Cross and text by Michael Wilson. Subject matter across the collection is diverse, encompassing early flight pioneers, modern military jets, commercial airliners, helicopters, wildlife such as rhinoceroses and birds, industrial maritime scenes, and a selection of cards depicting monstrous or fantasy characters. Each card typically features a colour illustration on the obverse with descriptive educational text on the reverse.
Condition report:
The collection is in mixed vintage condition. There is visible age-toning to the cardstock throughout. Individual cards show signs of handling including edge wear, softening to the corners, and minor surface marking. Some cards within the bundled stacks may have slight impressions or edge damage from the tension of the string ties. The storage box shows significant wear and is not original to the cards.
