A nineteenth-century earthenware plate featuring a blue and white transfer-printed design. The central scene portrays a romanticised European landscape with architectural features including domed towers, classical structures, and a gondola upon a body of water. This central composition is framed by a broad border of dense floral motifs, scrolling foliage, and repeating vignettes of architectural ruins. The plate possesses a scalloped rim with a deep blue feathered edge. To the reverse is an underglaze blue backstamp featuring a swan, the words TRADE MARK, a ribbon banner containing the pattern name JAPAN, and the manufacturer initials T.R. and Co with a T below. A printed capital F is also present near the mark.
Condition report:
The plate displays fine all-over crazing to the glaze on both surfaces, consistent with age and the earthenware body. There are no chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration visible from the provided images.
