This commemorative bronze medal was struck in 1954 to mark the 80th birthday of Sir Winston Churchill. The obverse features a high-relief stylised profile portrait of Churchill. The reverse bears the inscription TO COMMEMORATE THE 80TH BIRTHDAY OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR WINSTON S. CHURCHILL K.G. O.M. C.H. BRITAIN’S WARTIME LEADER. The dates 1874-1954 appear at the top flanked by oak leaf sprays, and the quotation NEVER WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY is positioned to the right above a laurel spray. The medal is housed in its original maroon-coloured hinged presentation case with a cream satin-lined lid and a black recessed base.
Condition report:
The medal displays a dark aged bronze patina with uneven toning and light wear visible on the high points of the portrait relief. The presentation case shows minor wear to the exterior edges and the fabric pull-tab in the base is frayed.
