A complete fireplace suite in the Neoclassical style, comprising a wooden mantel, marble back panel, and a brass-mounted inset grate. The large-scale wooden fireplace surround is finished in a mahogany stain. It features a tiered mantel shelf above a deep frieze decorated with a row of dentil moulding. Below the shelf, a secondary row of similar moulding provides further architectural detail. The square-section pilasters feature recessed rectangular panels and are supported by block plinths. The suite includes a polished white marble back panel with light grey and buff-coloured veining. The fireplace features a brass-finished frame surrounding a cast-iron grate. The grate is designed with a traditional front basket featuring vertical spindles topped with turned finials. The style and construction are indicative of a late 20th-century Regency Revival piece.
Condition report:
The suite is in used condition and shows signs of previous installation. The wooden mantel has visible scuffs, surface scratches, and wear, particularly around the plinth bases. The brass-finished frame shows tarnishing and surface wear consistent with age and use. The interior of the cast-iron grate shows soot and ash residue from active use.
