A mid-20th-century wooden cantilever sewing box, attributed to Strommen Bruk of Hamar, Norway. The piece features a three-tier accordion-style design with a central arched carrying handle and is supported by four splayed, tapered legs. The construction utilizes wooden connecting straps with metal pivot points that allow the two upper lid-covered compartments to swing outwards, providing access to two middle open compartments and a larger base section. The box compartments exhibit visible dovetail joints at the corners. Each of the top hinged lids is fitted with a turned wooden knob.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of age-related use, including surface scratches and scuffs to the wooden finish. One exterior strap is fitted with a non-matching replacement screw head. The cantilever mechanism remains functional.
