This Japanese sake set comprises a slender-necked flask and a matching drinking cup, crafted from white porcelain finished with a high-gloss cobalt blue (ruri-ji) glaze. The flask features a bulbous ovoid body transitioning into a tall, narrow neck with a flared rim. The exterior is decorated with polychrome enamels and extensive gilding, depicting a traditional scene of a pheasant perched amidst flowering peonies and foliage. The accompanying small cup is of a simple rounded form with a white interior, decorated with a complementary floral and foliate pattern including chrysanthemums. Both items are finished with gilded rims. No factory marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces of the items. The style and motifs are characteristic of Japanese export porcelain from the mid-to-late 20th century, produced in a style resembling Kutani ware for the international market.
Condition report:
The set is in good overall condition. There is visible minor rubbing and wear to the gilding on the rims, particularly on the cup, which is typical for items of this age and type. No chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration are observed.
