Buyer's Premium:

This philatelic numismatic cover (PNC), titled The Hound of the Baskervilles, is part of the British Isles Coin Cover Collection and is numbered M 0098 from a limited edition of 6,000. It features a block of four 1997 Royal Mail Tales of Terror commemorative stamps (Stanley Gibbons SG 1978-1981) with denominations of 26p, 31p, 37p, and 43p. The stamps are cancelled with a black pictorial first day of issue postmark from Baker St. London NW1, dated 13 May 1997, depicting a silhouette of Sherlock Holmes. Inset into the cover is a Gibraltar 1 Crown coin commemorating the centenary of the Return of Sherlock Holmes, featuring a relief of the hound on the reverse and the inscription 1 CROWN. The cover is mounted on a descriptive Westminster backing card providing historical context for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literature and the stamp issue.

Condition report:

Very fine. The stamps are well-preserved with clear, crisp cancellations. The cover and descriptive card show no visible signs of foxing, toning, or creases. The Gibraltar crown coin appears to be in uncirculated condition with sharp relief. The entire assembly is housed in a clear protective plastic sleeve.
