Buyer's Premium:

A trio of British commemorative philatelic First Day Covers (FDCs). The first cover, dated 6 May 1940, commemorates the centenary of the first postage stamp and features a single perforated 1d red stamp (SG 480) depicting Queen Victoria and King George VI. The item is cancelled with a Norwich, Norfolk circular date stamp and bears a large black illustrated cachet depicting the evolution of transport. The second cover, dated 10 May 1948, marks the third anniversary of the Channel Islands liberation, featuring 1d red and 2.5d blue stamps (SG 266-267). It is cancelled with a Guernsey circular date stamp and includes a map cachet of the Channel Islands. The third cover is a 1965 Sir Winston Churchill commemorative issue featuring a single 4d brown and grey stamp (SG 661). Although printed with the issue date of May 24th, it is cancelled with a Paddington W.2. circular date stamp and a First Day of Issue slogan cancel both dated 8 July 1965. This cover includes a portrait cachet of Churchill within a laurel wreath and is accompanied by a 1965 Churchill commemorative crown coin. All covers are unmounted paper envelopes with typed addresses.


Condition report:

The covers show minor signs of age-related wear, including light toning and minor corner bumping. The 1940 centenary cover exhibits light foxing to the left margin. The cancellations are generally clear and well-struck. The accompanying 1965 crown coin shows typical surface toning and light circulation wear.
