Description
A vibrant modernist oil painting on board by the Greek artist Zacharias Tzanarakis. The composition depicts a bright Mediterranean harbour scene, likely in the Cyclades, featuring white-washed dwellings with terracotta tiled roofs set against a rugged hillside. A large blue-hulled fishing boat is moored in the foreground, its mast and rigging rendered with fine lines, with its reflection captured in the turquoise water. The artist employs a confident impasto technique, using thick applications of paint to create texture, particularly in the highlights and the water surface. The work is signed Z. Tzanarakis in the lower-left corner. It is housed in a contemporary dark-stained wooden frame with a gilded inner slip. A portion of another print is visible in the background above the frame.
Condition report:
The painting is in good overall condition. The paint surface appears stable and retains its vibrant colour with no visible signs of craquelure or paint loss. Some light surface dust is present. The frame is structurally sound with some minor surface abrasions and light scuffing consistent with age and handling.
