Lot 165:
Description
This Edwardian period pepperette is constructed from 925 silver and bears the hallmarks for the Birmingham assay office, dated 1911. The piece is of cylindrical form with a slightly flared base and a domed, pull-off cover featuring circular perforations. Two raised concentric bands encircle the middle of the body, providing a surface for the struck hallmarks. The marks include the maker’s mark A B for Arthur Blackstaffe in separate rectangular cartouches, an anchor assay mark, the lowercase date letter m, and a lion passant.
Condition report:
The silver shows a natural aged patina with visible surface tarnish. There are minor surface scuffs and scratches throughout, consistent with the age and function of the piece. No evidence of major damage, dents, or restoration is observed.
