The front of the sleeve is decorated with an applied Union Jack flag flying from a silver flagpole, featuring red, white, and blue vitreous enamel work. The sides are constructed with arched apertures to facilitate the use of the striking surfaces on an inserted matchbox. The interior upper rim bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark ALLD for Adie and Lovekin Ltd, the anchor town mark for Birmingham, the lion passant sterling silver standard mark, and the date letter P. This patriotic item was produced at the onset of the Great War.

Width: 28mm
Depth: 16mm.

Condition report:

The item is in good antique condition. The 925 silver surfaces show moderate scratching, minor nicks, and small indentations consistent with service and age. The enamel remains largely intact and vibrant, though there are minor surface abrasions and a small area of enamel loss at the upper right corner of the flag. The sleeve retains its original rectangular form.
