UK 50 pence coin, dated 2009, struck in cupro-nickel with an equilateral curved heptagonal shape and plain edge. The obverse features the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the legend ELIZABETH II D G REG F D and the denomination FIFTY PENCE. The reverse features the Kew Gardens Great Pagoda design by Christopher Le Brun, issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The design includes the dates 1759 and 2009, with the initials K.R. visible at the base of the pagoda. This issue is the scarcest 50 pence design to enter general circulation. The coin is housed in a custom-made clear acrylic display stand engraved with Kew Gardens in decorative script.
