Description
A late Victorian style wrought iron bedstead, comprising an arched headboard, matching footboard, and two side rails. The frame is constructed from wrought iron with cast metal joints. The decorative panels feature a central openwork oval medallion with a serrated inner edge, flanked by symmetrical scrolling ironwork. The frame is further ornamented with various cast foliate and floral-motif mounts at the junctions and terminals. The entire frame is finished in a later black paint. The proportions are designed to accommodate a standard double mattress.
Approximate internal width: 135 cm (4ft 6in).
Condition report:
The item is in used condition. There is visible surface oxidation, pitting, and some corrosion beneath the later black paint finish. The paint shows general wear, scuffing, and minor losses throughout. The frame appears structurally complete with its original side rails.
